Farm Equipments

Demand for agricultural equipment has sky rocketed, accounting for a large percent of the regional total. While Kenya possesses a large amount of cultivatable land, a climate and terrain amenable to agriculture, and a high level of agricultural output, the mechanization rate in the country is extremely low, due primarily to the prevalence of subsistence farming. Kenya's many small farmers generally lack the in-come or access to external sources of capital necessary to purchase even the smaller and less expensive pieces of farm machinery. As a result, the larger, more corporate-oriented segment of the Kenyan agriculture sector currently accounts for the majority of agricultural equipment sales. That said, most small-scale farmers have a lot of options but little cash, so it's hard to even know where to begin. Look at these numerous pieces of farm equipment and gauge whether you need them to make your farm a more efcient and let's be honest a more fun place to work.

For the Future Farming

Animal feeds

Livestock keeping in all its ventures is a major source of incomes all over Kenya, from the most productive to nearly desert areas, and for all livestock keepers livestock feeding and nutrition is a major concern. Inadequate nutrition is a major cause of low live-weight gains, infertility and low milk yields and other health issues in cattle. Also pig, chicken, dairy goat and many other livestock keepers have expressed challenges in feeding their animals optimally. The following will explain the principles of animal nutrition and some examples of how to make home feed rations.

Basic types of feeds

Animal feeds are classified as follows: (1) concentrates, high in energy value, including fat, cereal grains and their by-products (barley, corn, oats, rye, wheat), high-protein oil meals or cakes (soybean, canola, cottonseed, peanut[groundnut]), and by-products from processing of sugar beets, sugarcne, animals, and sh, and (2) roughages, including pasture grasses, hays, silage, root crops, straw, and stover (cornstalks).

Generally animals must have a ration containing:

  • Energy (from carbohydrates and fats) to maintain the body and produce (milk, meat, work). The carbohydrates and fats not needed for production are converted to fat and stored in the body.
  • Protein is needed for body building (growth) and maintenance as well as milk production. Without protein there would be no body weight gain nor milk production. Excess protein is converted to urea and fat
  • Minerals help in body building as well as in biological regulation of growth and reproduction. They are also a major source of nutrients in milk.
  • Vitamins help regulate the biological processes in the body and become a source of nutrients in milk
  • Water helps all over in body building, heat regulation, biological processes as well as a large constituent of milk production as well as eggs.

Fertilizer

Fertilizers are chemical substances supplied to the crops to increase their productivity. These are used by the farmers daily to increase the crop yield. The fertilizers contain the essential nutrients required by the plants, including nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus. They enhance the water retention capacity of the soil and also increase its fertility.

Types of fertilizers

  • Inorganic Fertilizers
  • Nitrogen Fertilizers
  • Phosporus Fertilizers
  • Organic Fertilizers

Organic fertilizers can be obtained from the following products

  • Agricultural waste
  • Livestock manure
  • Industrial waste
  • Municipal sludge

Fertilizer uses:

  • They are used to providing additional nutrients to the plants.
  • They are added to improve the yield of the crops.
  • Nitrogen-rich fertilizers are used for the greening of lawns.
  • Organic fertilizers improve the texture and fertility of the soil.
  • Gardeners use fertilizers to address certain needs of the plants such as nutritional needs.
  • Fertilizers are added to potted plants to replace the lost nutrients.

Importance of Fertilizers:

It is very difficult to meet the demands of the increasing population with such fewer resources. Loss of soil fertility, pests, and lack of nutrients has resulted in a decrease in agricultural production. This has increased the importance of fertilizers in agriculture. Fertilizers can be important to the plants in the following ways:

  • Fertilizers increase plants' tolerance towards pests. This has reduced their reliance on insecticides and herbicides, thereby, producing healthier crops. Consequently, diseases have reduced, providing aesthetic value to the crops.
  • Fertilizers improve the water holding capacity of the plants and increase root depth.
  • Fertilizers improve the water holding capacity of the plants and increase root depth.
  • The potassium content present in the fertilizers strengthens the straws and stalks of the plants.
  • The phosphorus present in the fertilizers helps in the faster development of roots and formation of seeds in the plants.
  • Nitrogen in the fertilizers enhances the growth of the plants which can be characterized by the green colour of the plants.
We make every effort to incorporate sustainable practices in all aspects of our business processes
